How can I cultivate good energy doing yoga at home?

I generally encourage if at all possible don’t have your yoga space be in your bedroom, which as you know has the energy of sleep there more strongly than other locations, and in yoga, of course, we are trying to Wake Up! If you use an office space or space where there’s a computer or TV, covering those screens with something pretty at least for your practice time can make a surprisingly big difference in the quality of your practice. Appropriate lighting also can help create an ambience if you are practicing in the evening.

But…Yoga with my phone?

If you are joining on Zoom, you are, of course, using an electronic communication device. Remember, whatever the device, don’t answer any calls or texts or emails or whatever during your practice time; don’t check the news or stocks or whatever; no social media. You know. For that time, your device is just a “yoga prop,” nothing more, and is to be used ONLY for that purpose. You may know what I mean.

How does a by Donation studio work?

The donation requested is $10-20 per class; this IS NOT a cost! Please give what you can, whether on this scale or not. Money should never prevent anyone from coming as much as they want, and no one is ever turned away for financial reasons. From the blog: thoughts on donation yoga

How does being a Go Deep Member work?

Membership simply means you’ve signed the waiver.  Once you’ve signed the waiver, you’ll get a password to get you into the studio where you will find the Zoom meeting links.  You’ll also get the passcode for all of the Zoom classes. I recommend that you try to put your mat down on the ground and sit for a few minutes before class begins to center yourself.

VOTE! 2020…but Not JUST in the Election!

Oct. 25-26, 2020 What follows is adapted and updated from my blog at this time four years ago. Not much has changed, apparently! (If you’ve had enough of the election AND have already voted, feel free to skip to the THIRD PARAGRAPH, noted below.  If you HAVEN’T...

Loving Kindness, the physical space, is closing

A story: The current three-year lease (normal for business realty in our area) for the Loving Kindness space ends at the end of September. For all the months of the Governor’s closure of businesses like ours, I knew this end was looming and would force...

Building Energy in Your Home Yoga Practice

August 1-3, 2020 Well, y’all, it looks like we’re going to be doing the online, at-home classes for a while, even with the recent addition of some outside in-person classes, at least until we Americans decide that we need to kick the Covid. I’m infinitely thankful for...

Free Yoga? …or What It Means Offering Donation Yoga During Covid

May 25-28, 2020 This blog is specifically for those who are most economically effected by the lockdown.  Since the beginning of my teaching, as many of you know, I never wanted money to be what kept people from taking yoga classes with me.  That philosophy has been...

A HUGE “Thank You” for Ten Years of Donation Yoga!

April 11-14, 2020 OH, MY GOD!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  This week is ten whole years of me “running” a donation yoga studio.  (And on a side-note, our oldest son turns 18!)  Certainly I have done my work to keep this process going, but it seriously would not...

Progress in Yoga-2

February 13-17, 2020 “I don’t have very much hope for progress in this pose this year,” said a student commenting on paschimottanasana, the pose of the year, while I was helping her with it in class early last month.  I had helped her back up to a non-hurtful place...

A Suggested 2020 New Year’s Resolution

January 3, 2020 I hope you had peaceful and meaningful holy-days, and that you are settling back into some kind of “normal” schedule, or will be soon once kids or you are back in school. You may know I’m a fan of New Year’s resolutions… at least ones that I or anyone...

Following the Inner Feeling

“The important idea to keep in mind is always to follow the inner feeling. This is one of the primary teachings of yoga.” -Erich Schiffmann’s Yoga the Spirit and Practice of Moving Into Stillness (in the Balance section) This sentence showed up in the reading in class...

Did you ever go through a hard patch of life, or a challenging event?  Of course you have (maybe you even chuckled out loud reading that question).  A student recently reached out to me for advice.  She was having a very hard time in life and was not showing up for...

Don’t Indulge the Fear

"Scary things seem to exist only in your imagination.” -Erich Schiffmann This sentence from Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving Into Stillness, from the reading in class last week, brought up a lot of push-back from people, culminating in one woman after a...
